Your visa, sorted early

Get connected with an eSIM or SIM
A local eSIM or a cheap SIM from the airport gives you data for maps, ride apps and translation from the moment you arrive. Reliable mobile data is the single thing that makes everything else easy.
Cash and cards
The dong is cash-friendly, and small vendors, markets and taxis often prefer it, while cards and ride apps cover hotels and larger spends. Carry some cash, keep smaller notes handy, and use ATMs from established banks.
A few words of Vietnamese
Learning xin chao (hello) and cam on (thank you) goes a long way and is always appreciated. A translation app covers the rest and turns street food into an adventure.
Simple etiquette
Dress modestly at temples, remove your shoes when entering homes, and keep your cool when bargaining. A friendly, patient manner opens doors everywhere in Vietnam.
Stay well in the heat
It is warm and humid in much of the country, so drink plenty of water, ease into the street food, and enjoy the local coffee, which is superb and everywhere.
